Trauma & PTSD
Trauma can be generally defined as an event or on-going series of events that has overwhelmed your abilities to cope. Over time, you can still react in a way that feels like you're still in it. Trauma can leave you confused, scattered, and uncertain as you try to move on. You make your best attempts to get over it but it often takes over. At times, leaving you feeling helpless, desperate or hopeless.
It can feel like you're trapped in something that you can't seem to change. Trauma affects the way we think, feel, act, and it's also stored within our bodies.
How can therapy help?
Trauma treatment involves a delicate balance between 'doing life' and slowly uncover what has felt troubled. Typically, it involves 3 stages of treatment: building emotional safety and stabilization, processing trauma, and integration. Therapy can help you make sense of what happened to you and integrate the aspects of yourself that feels unsettled. A new sense of safety emerges within and you have more flexibility to navigate your own life.
